The producers of Legally Blonde the Musical have announced it will close on 7 April, 2012.
After opening in December 2009, the show was a hit with audiences and critics alike, winning Olivier Awards for Best New Musical and Best Actress in a Musical for its original star, Sheridan Smith. Smith went on to win critical acclaim for her performance in Terrence Rattigan’s Flare Plath and will headline the new Bridget Jones musical, scheduled to open later this year.
The current cast will remain in their roles through the show’s closing. Carley Stenson stars as Elle Woods, Stephen Ashfield plays Emmett, and Ben Freeman is Warner. Peter Davison will also continue as Professsor Callahan, a role he has played since the shows opening.
The West End production of Legally Blonde outlasted its Broadway counterpart, which ran for just over a year and closed in 2008. An Australian production will premiere in Sydney this September.
